Daniel Copeland

Daniel currently serves as a Director of Human Resources at Community Trust Company (CTC). We asked him a few questions regarding HR policies and what drives his passion for HR.1) How did you get started in HR?Daniel started off as an HR Co-ordinator in the hospitality industry, driven by the belief that it is essential to align business and people strategies. Daniel has a total of 13 years of industry experience, as a Human Resource professional.2) What are some of the exciting perks to work at CTC?CTC offers robust wellness programs to employees to promote both, physical & mental health. We also take great pride in our work environment which encourages people to take breaks, go out on office walks and do lunches as a team. This approach not only allows people to work together collaboratively, but also reminds them to maintain healthy stress levels when balancing their home/work life.3) What do you see as the future of total rewards & benefits in Canada?Two words: Customized & Personalized4) What wisdom would you like to share with a CEO who is starting a new company?It is crucial to have Human Resources holding a seat at the leadership table and to be mindful that your people strategies are in ‘lock-step’ with your business strategy and vision.5) What wisdom would you share with a new HR grad about the business?It is important for an individual to have an attitude where learning is top-of-mind. This way he/she can be knowledgeable and develop practices which are in line with an ever-changing work landscape. Also – don’t be afraid of taking on new challenges or projects.
